Man now faces Maryland weapons charge, other allegations

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA on Saturday, February 23, 2013.

A 38-year-old man is now facing serious criminal allegations in Maryland after an alleged stabbing and then standoff with police. Authorities were called to the scene after a female victim ran from a home with a knife protruding from her chest. Witnesses claimed that she screamed for help as she ran. While she suffered serious injuries, she is expected to make a full recovery. The man who authorities claim stabbed her is now facing a weapons charge along with counts of attempted murder, reckless endangerment and assault.

SWAT team members responded to the scene in addition to other police and emergency personnel. The victim reportedly ran from the house at about 4:00 p.m., but the man didn’t surrender to authorities until 6:35 p.m. Police negotiators worked to get the man to give himself up peacefully and were evidently successful.

Reports indicate that the man and the alleged teenage victim were related in some manner. The young woman had to undergo surgery for her wounds, but authorities indicate that she will survive. The man accused of stabbing her will now likely be processed on the allegations that have been leveled against him.

Maryland prosecutors have charged the man with not just a weapons charge, but also attempted murder, among others. These allegations could lead to serious consequences for the accused defendant. This is one reason that our judicial system demands that all defendants be considered innocent until and only if proven guilty. Each person is entitled to a fair hearing in court and can only be convicted if sufficient evidence establishes their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Otherwise, they will not be convicted on the criminal charges made against them.
