Man suspected of shooting police will likely face weapons charge

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Weapons Crimes on Thursday, October 24, 2013.

A man who police suspect shot and seriously wounded a police officer was tracked down and has recently been arrested. The 29-year-old man allegedly shot a police officer, and then the man ran and hid from officers for nearly 24 hours before he was found and arrested. While the report does not specify the exact charges the man faces, it can be assumed that the Maryland man will face at least one weapons charge.

According to the report, the man allegedly came out of nowhere and started shooting police officers. The officers were supposedly in the area because they had responded to a call about a man with a gun being in the area. One officer was seriously wounded and had to be taken to an area hospital. The man purportedly fled the scene and hid from officers.

SWAT team members, local police officers and even police academy recruits used a “grid search” pattern to scan the woods near where the shooting took place in an attempt to find the alleged suspect. Police report that they found him with a bullet wound to his right leg, and they arrested him without incident. The gun that the police suspect to be the suspect’s was found in a nearby storm drain.

The exact charges under which the man was arrested have not been disclosed at this time. However, it can be assumed that the man will face at least one weapons charge for supposedly shooting and injuring a Maryland police officer. Regardless of the crime a person has been accused of, it is important to remember that all persons remain innocent until proved guilty — and only if proved guilty — in a court of law.
