2 Suspects arrested and detained on drug charges

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Friday, December 6, 2013.

Officials from various law enforcement departments of Maryland executed a warrant to search and seize in a Westminster home recently. Investigators suspected the male and female occupants of the house, who had previous convictions on drug charges, to be guilty of drug trafficking. Charging documents indicated that investigators had reason to suspect that the two individuals were trafficking illegal drugs to Baltimore City. Members of a drug task force, State Police investigators and a major case squad executed the warrant.

As stated in the charging documents, seized from inside the house were cocaine weighing 125.8 grams, marijuana weighing 82 grams, heroin weighing 7.1 grams as well as cash to the value of $43,853. Police reported that the drugs were sealed in zip-close bags and that part of the heroin recovered was found inside a vehicle parked in the garage. A digital scale, allegedly containing cocaine residue, was also recovered from the house.

According to police reports, both suspects had previous felony convictions that prohibited them from having firearms; however, police allegedly recovered a revolver handgun in the house. Their previous convictions also included distribution. Typically this could be an aggravating factor in a drug trafficking case and could result in a lengthy prison sentence. The two suspects were held at a detention center. They were both charged with possession, but only the female was charged with distribution.

The seriousness of this case will likely be determined by various factors, such as previous convictions and the type and quantity of drugs recovered. The suspicion of drug trafficking may also affect the actions of law enforcers. Maryland residents who find themselves facing drug charges may want to consider the different legal options relative to the case. This knowledge may prepare the accused for the legal processes that will follow. The two people involved will also want to thoroughly understand their rights and remember that they will remain innocent unless they can be proved guilty.
