Numerous Maryland individuals face drug charges after party bust

Maryland residents may be shocked to hear about a recent drug crime that involved several young adults and numerous teenagers. Many may feel as though individuals who are facing drug charges should be punished immediately. However, the justice system requires that prosecutors prove beyond a reasonable doubt that an alleged suspect is guilty of the charges against him or her. This is what several individuals will need to keep in mind as they move forward.

Reportedly, officers had detained two teenagers whom they needed to verify alibis for. This is what led them to a party where eight individuals — between the ages of 18 and 20 — were charged with the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The officers claim that, as they approached the home, they were able to smell marijuana. They also allege that they were able to spot what they believed was drug paraphernalia and empty alcohol containers from the entrance.

Although the officers claim that everyone inside the house began to scatter, they were able to apprehend some of them who ran. As they began to search the home, they came across close to a dozen teenagers. Officers said that no one at the home was allowed to obtain, consume or possess the alcoholic beverages.

The eight individuals are now facing drug charges. It is not clear whether they have retained counsel to help them fight these charges. Further, it is not evident whether they’ll enter a plea deal or if they are even guilty of any crime. Those in Maryland who have been charged with a drug crime would do well to know that they are innocent until proved guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. People who are facing drug charges have the right to a fair trial and to defend themselves as they pursue the most favorable outcome in their situation.
