2 Maryland men facing cocaine charges after traffic stop

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Friday, April 11, 2014.

Many individuals have been pulled over by law enforcement for minor traffic violations before. Many are uncertain as to why they are being pulled over and stress is often the first emotion one feels as they wonder if they’ll get off with a warning or receive a citation. A number of traffic stops are generally relatively routine and individuals can go about their day after a short period of time. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. For two men in Maryland, their traffic stop has resulted in cocaine charges, among others.

After being pulled over for lack of an inspection sticker, two men have now been charged with cocaine possession. They were pulled over by State Troopers early one morning while driving on Interstate 84. Troopers pulled them over in their Chrysler Pacifica to gain more information as to why the vehicle was not inspected.

Police maintain that they allegedly spotted cocaine in the vehicle during the traffic stop. Reportedly, troopers seized 135 grams of cocaine from the Pacifica and arrested both vehicle occupants. The men were charged with cocaine trafficking as well as additional charges. Both 31-year-old men are now being on a $10,000 bail.

Because their future is uncertain at this time, these two Maryland men will likely want to preserve their rights as they face these cocaine charges. The prosecution has the burden of proving these charges beyond a reasonable doubt. Depending on the exact situation and the evidence, these two men may be able to seek a dismissal of these charges or make a plea bargain that will result in lesser charges and possibly a drug treatment program.
