Maryland trio charged with burglary and drug offenses

On behalf of Jack B. Rubin, PA posted in Drug Charges on Saturday, May 3, 2014.

Maryland residents are likely well aware of the consequences that are associated with being caught with drugs. From fines and penalties to time in prison, the consequences can be quite severe for any crime if a conviction is obtained. A strong criminal defense may be able to help defendants fight charges for alleged drug offenses, which is something three Maryland individuals may want to keep in mind.

Three individuals were recently arrested for breaking into a Maryland home and each of the three individuals now face both burglary and drug charges. Officers say that once they arrived at the home, they heard someone lock the door from inside. Authorities commanded that they open the doo. However, officers say that no one would open the door or acknowledge their instructions.

One of the suspects fled on foot after climbing through a window on the side of the house. He was eventually apprehended. The other two suspects were reportedly pulled from a rear window of the home. Although uncertain, police believe there may have been a fourth individual involved.

Maryland authorities report that they found drugs within the home and believe that the drugs belonged to the three suspects, which is how the drug charges came about. Fortunately for the three suspects facing drug charges from alleged drug offenses, the prosecution has the burden to prove that the drugs inside the home did indeed belong to the suspects. Furthermore, evidence may be challenged or negotiations may be made to enter into a plea deal, such as entering into a drug awareness program or drug rehabilitation center, so that the suspects may stay out of jail.
